Domain & DNS Configuration
Connecting your domain to your server is a critical step. This guide will walk you through setting up your DNS A Records to point your domain and subdomains to your server’s IP address.
DNS changes can take anywhere from 5 minutes to 48 hours to propagate globally. This is known as DNS propagation.
Access Your Domain Registrar
Log in to the account where you purchased your domain. Common registrars include:
- GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains, Hostinger, etc.
Navigate to DNS Management
Find the DNS Management, DNS Settings, or Manage Zones section. This is where you control where your domain points.
Create ‘A Records’ (Primary Setup)
You need to create A Records to map your subdomains to your server’s IP address.
Task: Add the following records to your DNS table:
| Type | Host (Name) | Value (Points to) | TTL |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | admin | YOUR_SERVER_IP | Automatic |
| A | web | YOUR_SERVER_IP | Automatic |
Replace YOUR_SERVER_IP with the actual public IP address of your DigitalOcean Droplet or VPS.
Save & Apply Changes
Review your entries and click Save All Changes or Apply Changes. Once saved, your domain provider will start updating the records.
Verify Subdomain Configuration
Ensure that both your Admin Panel and Web App have their respective subdomains set up correctly. If you have more services, repeat the steps for each.
Configuration Summary
The following subdomains must be configured in your domain provider for Dramavie to function correctly:
- Admin Panel:
admin.yourdomain.com - Web App:
web.yourdomain.com
Note: Make sure you use the same IP address for all A records pointing to the same server.
How to Check Propagation?
You can use tools like DNSChecker.org to verify if your subdomains are pointing to the correct IP address across different regions.
